About Threshold
Who is Threshold Social for?
Threshold is for Black professionals, practitioners, creatives, and changemakers seeking community-rooted wellness, support, and care — whether you're actively practicing, in training, or simply seeking space to belong.
What does "community-rooted wellness" mean?
For Threshold Social, community-rooted wellness recognizes that our well-being is shaped by connection, culture, belonging, and the communities we build together — not just individual care.
Do I need to be a therapist or wellness practitioner to join?
No. You do not need to work in a care-based profession to join Threshold Social. Membership is open to anyone who is aligned with and committed to furthering our mission of community wellness, racial equity, and sustainable care for Black professionals.
Is Threshold Social therapy?
No. Threshold Social is not therapy. We create intentional spaces for connection, collective care, wellness, and healing while offering resources and opportunities that support — rather than replace — individual mental health care.
Membership & participation
What does membership include?
Membership provides access to Threshold Social's community, member experiences, events, resources, and opportunities for connection and professional growth.
How do I become a member?
Joining Threshold Social begins with completing a membership application and connecting with our community. Membership details, current dues, and next steps are available through our membership page.
Can I attend Threshold Social events without becoming a member?
Some events are open to the broader community, while others may be designed specifically for members. Event details will always indicate who is welcome to attend.
Are events in-person or virtual?
We offer a mix of in-person and virtual gatherings, depending on the event. Details are always shared in advance.
Access & opportunities
Is financial accessibility considered?
Yes. Equity is a core value of Threshold Social. We actively work to reduce financial barriers through scholarships, sliding-scale options, and community-supported initiatives.
Do you offer internships or work-study opportunities?
Yes. Threshold Social offers non-clinical hybrid internship opportunities for MSW and LPC students, as well as Federal Work-Study and volunteer opportunities when available.
How can I get involved with Threshold Social?
There are many ways to get involved beyond membership. You can attend events, volunteer your time or expertise, support our programs, partner with us, or help connect Threshold Social with others in your network.
Supporting Threshold
How are membership dues and donations used?
Membership dues and donations help sustain Threshold Social's programs, events, resources, and community initiatives. Funds may support everything from gathering spaces and program materials to outreach, scholarships, and organizational operations.
Can I support Threshold Social without becoming a member?
Absolutely. You can support Threshold by making a donation, attending or sharing our events, referring potential members and partners, volunteering your time or expertise, or helping spread the word about our work.
What's the difference between membership dues and a donation?
Membership dues support your participation in Threshold Social and help sustain our ongoing community work. Donations provide additional support and help us expand access to programs, scholarships, events, and other community initiatives.
Is Threshold Social financially transparent?
Yes. We are committed to responsible and transparent stewardship of organizational funds. Members may request financial information regarding the use of organizational funds, subject to applicable privacy and confidentiality requirements. You can also view our Candid nonprofit profile.
