Meet our team

The people holding the door open.

Threshold Social is built and guided by Black care-centered professionals — clinicians, social workers, and community builders who know firsthand what it means to hold others, and to be held in return.

Chiara Shelton, LCSW

Founder & Chief Executive Officer

Chiara Shelton, LCSW is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Threshold Social, a Richmond-based nonprofit reimagining what care, connection, and community can look like for Black care-centered professionals. She founded Threshold from a simple conviction: that those who spend their lives holding others deserve a space that holds them.

With over eight years of experience across behavioral health and leadership, Chiara leads the organization's vision, partnerships, and community — building the kind of sanctuary she wished had existed for the care-centered professionals around her.

A Licensed Clinical Social Worker and mental health advocate, Chiara is committed to racial equity, sustainable care, and a Richmond where rest meets revolution.

Jessica P. Hill, LCSW — professionally known as "The Black Man's Therapist" — is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker based in Richmond, Virginia. She earned her Bachelor of Science from Old Dominion University in 2018 and her Master of Social Work from Morgan State University School of Social Work in 2020.

Her mission is to support men in reducing depression, anxiety, and emotional barriers while fostering greater self-awareness, healing, and emotional presence. Jessica believes that although the therapeutic journey can be challenging, no one has to walk it alone.

Mallorie Greene, founding board member of Threshold Social

Mallorie Greene

Founding Board Member

A Richmond native, Mallorie is a reflection of the impact that community-education partnerships have in the lives of local youth. Once a student and participant, then an arts educator and now a fundraiser, she believes in the collective commitment to removing barriers of access to the arts.

Her experience as a young performer left a permanent impression of devotion to art making and self-expression. After graduating in 2019 with a B.A. in Leadership and Organizational Development from George Mason University, and witnessing the impact of COVID-19 on nonprofits, she found her calling in arts fundraising — with a personal mission to create accessible creative experiences for everyone who wishes to join. She currently serves as Senior Manager of Development at the Visual Arts Center of Richmond, and spends her time reading Toni Morrison and rewatching early seasons of The Real Housewives of Atlanta in equal measure.

You've been holding space for others long enough. It's time to find a space that holds you.
